Police bites

Port Douglas Police are seeking information from the public into a street brawl on Warner Street in the early hours of last Friday morning.

Police allege that seven to eight males from Port Douglas and Mossman were involved in the melee, which resulted in a window of a Warner Street business being smashed.

Any information leading to the identification of the people involved is sought, police enquiries are continuing.

A search warrant issued on a Davidson Street premises on Saturday afternoon resulted in a quantity of cannabis and utensils seized by police.

A Port Douglas Police spokesman says three males have been dealt with by way of "drug diversion", with a 26-year-old local man to appear at Mossman Courthouse in August charged with possessing a dangerous drug.

Meanwhile, a 31-year-old male has also been issued with a notice to appear before Mossman Court in August, after being charged with public drinking on Reef Street, Port Douglas, last Saturday night at around 10.30pm.

International tourists are alleging to have been the target of thieves in the past week.

On Saturday at 2.30am, Port Douglas Police allege $200 was stolen from the unattended wallet of a 22-year-old international tourist on Macrossan Street.

Police are looking to speak with two Caucasian females in their early 20s with dark hair and wearing black dresses – one wearing a small rope or plaited band around her head.

Police are also seeking any information regarding an alleged theft in Craiglie on Saturday between 1pm and 1.30pm.

They say a French tourist claimed to have a wallet stolen from the toilets of a Craiglie service station, with the tourist’s passport, driver’s license, an amount of Australian currency, an MP3 player, three Visa cards and camera all taken.
