On Sunday our Club Champions travelled to Mareeba to contest the regional Champion of Champions. Peter Chrisfield continued his run of good form taking out the men’s A Grade. Chrisfield sealed the win with a birdie on the 18th to win by a shot.
Lyn Heimann also flew the flag for Mossman winning the ladies Division Two with another brilliant round of golf. Leonnie Phillips couldn’t quite get across the line but finished a respectable second place in Division Three for the ladies.
Earlier last week the Tuesday men played a Stableford competition. Brett Jurie won Division One with 42 points ahead of Ralf Middel on 41 points. Michael Gabour hit top form scoring 44 points to win Division Two by a shot to Bob Slade on 43 points.
Nearest the pins were Mal Phillips on 6, Ian Prewett on 8, Warrick Bourguignon on 10, C Southern on 13 and Kerry Johnstone on 17.
Helen made it a Gabour double for the week winning the Thursday ladies with 43 points ahead of Lorraine Skinner on 39 points. Maxine Leigh won nearest the pin on 6 and Kerri Williams won 13.
The Saturday players took a break from singles competition and joined up for a Two Ball Ambrose. Bruce Cheesman and Wayne Dowell were awarded the win for the event while Geoff Goodwin and Ian Prewett claimed second place.
Nearest the pins went to Ian McDowall on 6, Ian Prewett and Shona Barbour on 8, Prewett on 10, Lance Townsend and Pris Freeman on 13 and Pris again on 17.
On Sunday Adam Ferguson struck some form scoring 43 points to win ahead of Joe Wild on 41 points. Nearest the pins were Shona Barbour on 8, Frank Wohlhuter on 10 and Wayne Baxter on 17.
This weekend over 150 players from around the region will head onto the course for the annual Quicksilver Mossman Open. Locals Peter Chrisfield and Gennai Goodwin will again start favourites in what should be an exciting weekend of golf.
