Sustainable living expo this Sunday
The 2011 Sustainable Living Expo to be held at the new location on the Cairns Esplanade is kicking off at 11am this Sunday, June 26.
This year the expo will feature more than 40 stallholders, free workshops, children’s activities and live entertainment.
“It’s all about making small changes in your own lifestyle to improve health, personal and community wellbeing and impact on the natural environment," said Mayor Val Schier.
“One of those changes could be to spend more time on a bicycle and less time in the car.”
Countless other ideas will be on display, with stallholders offering a range of sustainability-inspired products, services and concepts. Free practical workshops will include sustainable house design and solar energy.
“There really is something for everyone and people might just be surprised at what they learn,” Cr Schier said. “They might even find some practical new ways to save money.”
The winners of the children’s recycled sculptures competition will be announced at 2pm and the event will wrap up at 4pm.
The Sustainable Living Expo is a joint project between Cairns Regional Council and Tropical North Queensland TAFE.
