by Treveen Page
Douglas Junior Netballers started their final round for Term 2 this week with the 10/Under Diamonds playing the in form Saints.
Due to school holidays many teams were short of players this week. The Diamonds who were winning easily at the start of the season have now met their match in the Saints.
For the Diamonds Hannah Durie was excellent in centre showing great drive and determination throughout the game and Alysha Hughes was fantastic in attack
creating many plays to send the ball to goal.
Kiara-Mae Gaddes for Saints has gained so much confidence over the last few months. She is passing extremely well and showing great leadership on the court.
Keeley Harold defended strongly and Jay Heidke put in a great game.
Final score nil all draw.
The Tigers played the Gladiators in a tight contest and the Tigers were only one goal down at half time. Georgia Kelly was excellent for four quarters and shot a brilliant goal.
Heidi Pashen may be small in stature but large on ability. She intercepted well to gain plays for her team. Thanks to Savaanah Scott and Shannon Dwyer for making up numbers.
Sisters Jasmine and Sophie Kirk for the Gladiators combined well together in goal attack and goal shooter as the team lifted with great passing by Sophee Watson.
Final score Gladiators 4 def. Tigers 2.
The 12/Under competition on Court 1 saw the Crocs play the Magic. The Crocs were one player down but were certainly not out as Jessica Viola put in a strong defensive game and made many intercepts to send the ball to goal.
Phoenix Scott-Spackman played fantastic netball jumping for the ball and positioning herself well in the goal circle creating many opportunities for goal - well done!
For Magic, Casilda Creek was brilliant in defence showing her natural talent and Shania Jacobsen used the court well to gain possession of the ball which proved a winning combination with Sophie O'Gorman-Petrack finishing well for goal.
Final score Magic 11 def. Crocs 7.
On Court 2 the Panthers played the Allstars. The Panthers were down three players so thanks to Sophee Watson and Stella Burnett from 10/Under for playing up to help the team out, and to Mikeala Goodwin from Allstars playing with the Panthers.
Jade Reed put in a great defensive game along with Ellie McKay. The Allstars, with attacking plays by Liana Pelegrinet and a strong centre in Rae Page, were dominant for four quarters,
Thanks the Keeley Harold from Saints 10/Unders for playing up as well for the Allstars.
Final score 19 def. Panthers 1.
Miallo 1 played the Sparks on Court 3. The Sparks played well but could not get the score on the board. Thanks to Hannah Durie for playing up from the 10/Under Diamonds.
Tayler Miller was impressive in centre; she always has great fun and shows sportsmanship when on court. Tiah McLean positioned herself well over the court to gain posession of the ball, matching her more experienced opponents.
Miallo 1 dominated thatnk to great defence by Lilly Wicks and Jade Schuck who put in brilliant game reading the play so well and finishing off well for goals.
Final score Miallo 1 13 def. Sparks nil.
The 14/Under competition started with the Judamalies playing the now named 12/Under representative team. The Judamalies under coach/captain Natalie Littler had a sluggish start but quickly realised they had a slick and fast younger to team to overcome.
Brittany Bowen was excellent in her passing especially to Maddy Weaver in the goal circle. They combined well to get some much needed goals in the second quarter.
Kloee Revel is increasingly gaining confidence in defence and is showing great skill while Dakota Bowen, who is always the most vocal on court, played well in defence and in centre.
The 12/Under Reps kept the intensity of the game right up the to older side with great positioning, timing and with some very slick passing they pushed them to the last second.
Casilda Creek put in an excellent game - her defensive play is brilliant with few balls passing her by. The team showed that the dodge, double dodge and timing drills are paying off and displayed it on court with great efficiency.
The star of the day for the 12/U Reps was Jade Schuck; she just gets better every week in goal attack covering the court to bring the ball up to goal and then finishing off with great accurate shooting. Great game and well done Jade!
Final score Judamalies 16 def. 12/Under Reps 15.
The Dynamite played the Violet Vipers and Dynamite started strongly shooting four goals to two in the first half. Eleisha Mealing was again great in defence and Simone Pringle put in a tough game against the Vipers goal Keeper Jess Eagle-Rowe.
Emma Stievano displayed great timing and passing to the goal circle and Marley Cairns with her Grandparents looking on was great in goal attack and Megan Von Kesyerling was the player's choice.
The Violet Vipers' Bella Kurth and Tayler Durie combined well throughout the game with accurate passing creating strong plays to goal. Jeorgia Westgate used the goal circle well to finish off with a two goal win.
Thanks to Karla Logan from the Jets for playing with the Vipers to make up the numbers.
Final score Vipers 8 def. Dynamite 6.
