50 years of Cairns Festival

In the lead up to its milestone 50th season, Cairns Festival has revealed a handful of highlights from its line up that will celebrate '50 Years Under A Tropical Sun' between Friday 19 August and Sunday 4 September.

This year's anniversary program begins with Cairns Indigenous Art Fair at its new Cruise Liner Passenger Terminal venue overlooking Trinity Inlet, as a focus of the region's "creative and cultural identity".

"The buzz has already begun," said Alison Copley, general manager of Cairns Indigenous Art Fair. "People from Hobart to Darwin are talking about the exciting cultural events and Festival time ahead."

According to Cairns Festival producer, Eric Holowacz, recently confirmed highlights of the 2011 Cairns Festival include something for everyone.

Circus Oz, Musica Botanica, and Festival Kids Village, are just some of the diverse events on offer.

Much of the 2011 Cairns Festival will remain a mystery until the formal program launch in early July when Mayor Val Schier officially opens the season of "50 Years Under a Tropical Sun".
