The sports wrap with Nicky G

by Nick Gibson

With the Brisbane Lions decimated by injury and getting smashed on the weekend I’m more intrigued about the finals of the best basketball competition in the world right now – the NBA.

Miami and Dallas are putting on a great series and both have already stolen ‘away’ wins. It now stands at two a piece and back on serve but I still think
Miami are gonna get this in six – or preferably from a spectator viewpoint – seven.

Both of Dallas’ wins have been come from prayer comebacks which could have easily gone the other way but to their credit they’ve found a way to win.

The big seven foot Dirk Nowitzki is a star – there’s no doubting that, but do they rely too heavily on him? The other interesting point is that Lebron James
(who some are saying will surpass Jordan as the best ever) only had eight points in game four’s loss and hasn’t really got out of second gear yet so watch
out when he does!

Game five will be played Friday in Dallas before the series returns to Miami where I believe the Heat will win their second ever NBA title. Dirk and co have
other ideas however....

The AFL is one week away from my half year report card but a few things have already stood out more than a big male Alsatian lying in front of a fire with

his family jewels on display  – Collingwood are head and shoulders above; Geelong look like the only club capable of getting close; Western Bulldogs have
gone from pre season ‘contenders’ to also-rans, and Brisbane will be licking their wounds for a few years yet after some bad dealings at the trade table 18
months ago!

Catch my full mid season report card next week (along with a report on the new NBA Champs) only on The Newsport!

THIS WEEK'S WINNERS

Geelong – still undefeated
Shaq O’Neill – retires after a brilliant career of basketballing and rapping!
NSW Blues – didn’t lose this week!
Hawthorn and Carlton – takes me back to the 80’s to have these to proud clubs in the top 4.
Nadal – Fererer will never get him on clay now.
Brent Harvey – will take over from Glenn Archer as the most capped Kangaroo

THIS WEEK'S LOSERS

Brisbane Lions – we want Lethal back!
Adelaide Crows – Ouch!
Port Adelaide – double ouch!
Essendon – Honeymoon over or injuries?
