Magic roll on in Junior Netball

by Treveen Page

Round 9 of Junior Netball kicked off last Tuesday with the 10/Under Diamonds playing the Gladiators. The Gladiators were on their game this week putting in a fantastic team performance, but both teams were 3 goals each at three quarter time.

Allie Siebel put in a brilliant effort and Eva Mellows up from Net Set Go put her newly learned skills into practice and was named player's choice for the Gladiators.  For the Diamonds, Amelia Lee was excellent in defence with great intercepts and Kalani Revel rebounded well as goal keeper.

Final score Diamonds by a goal 4 goals to 3.

The Saints who are showing great form played the Tigers, and thanks should go to Alex Heidke for training the Saints team at Saint Augustine's school's new court on Thursdays.

The Tigers put in a determined game with lots of intercepts in all positions. Heidi Pashen was excellent and Shannon Dwyer showed her great skills throughout the game.  For the Saints Kate Padovan and Jordan Scott controlled the game and scored well for goal.

Final score Saints 5 def. Tiger 1.

The 12/Under competition saw the Sparks play the Crocs on Court 2, and it was the Crocs who played a true team game with all players contributing strongly.
The Sparks are finding form as a team and little Tiah McLean was once again hard at the ball. She gets two hands on it and pulls the ball in no matter
who how big her opponent is. Cartier Bennett was also fantastic in defence, rebounding well.

Lauren Radcliffe was named player's choice and Phoenix Scott-Spackman best and fairest for the day.

Final score Crocs 14 def. Sparks 2.

The Panthers played the Mossman Magic team on court 2. The Panthers are ever improving but were up against a talented team in the Magic.

Robin Bruening put in a great defensive game, and Shannon Lincoln with her lovely nature is an asset to her side. Savaanah Scott excels by experience.

The Magic team are becoming very finely tuned and are look for a definite spot in A division finals. Casilda Creek was naturally athletic on her intercepts and was fantastic for four quarters, and Sophie O'Gorman-Petrack is showing herself to be a talented goal attack.

Final score Magic 25 def. Panthers 1.

Miallo 1 played the Allstars in a nailbiter as both teams shot one goal each in the first quarter. The Allstars then found their rhythm and steadied for the next quarter to lead by 2 goals.

The Miallo team with excellent fast passing and brilliant intercepts by Maddie Malone and Lana Baxter kept the pressure up in a tight game.  The Allstars
were challenged by the talented Miallo players, and Liana Pelegrinet was the star of the game with excellent anticipation of the ball, and fantastic intercepts by Rae Page kept the teams neck and neck.

Final score - Draw.

The 14/Under division started with the 12/Under Representative side playing the talented Dynamite team. The Reps were only 1 goal down by half time and showed great plays over the court.

Poppy Lawrence was excellent in attack and Saisha Schonenberger, with her athletic style and great reading of the play, defended well.  The Dynamite steadied and played great team netball in the second half shooting 8 goals to 2 and showed their experience as a team.

Eleisha Mealing and Marley Cairns were excellent, both training in Cairns fortnightly as part of the Junior Marlins is evident in their team playing.

Final score Dynamite 11 def. 12/Under Rep. 2.

The Judamalies (Thunderstorm) played the in form Violet Vipers. The Judamalies team who have been strong, but were missing Lauren Ryan to injury, put in a strong performance.

Holly Brown was excellent in Goal Attack shooting accurately and Natalie Litter, the captain coach, was dominant in centre.  The Violet Vipers always enjoy their netball and play with alot of chatter.

Akasha Francis held her centre position well and dead eye Jeorgia Westgate shot brilliantly for goal.

Final score Violet Vipers 15 def. Judamalies 5.
