Getaway to Parrotfish
Parrotfish Lodge, a relaxed backpacker accommodation house in Warner Street will feature on the popular travel show 'Getaway' on Thursday night.
"It was pure luck to be perfectly honest (getting chosen for the story)," Parrotfish Lodge Manager White Mick said. "They had footage from when they ran a show in 2008. We were contacted about three weeks ago to say would we be interested?"
Mick and wife Agnus jumped at the chance, and they were just as eager to take over the management of Parrotfish Lodge just a few months ago.
"We holidayed in Port before we were married and we used to sit on Four Mile Beach and fantasies about wouldn't it be great to live here and work here. We sort of shelved that idea because opportunities like that don't pop up all the time," Mick said.
Then in November last year opportunity knocked, or more accurately, called.
"The landlord of the property who I know expressed a possible scenario (to manage the property) and we couldn't believe our luck," Mick said.
Mick and Agnus have been working in the tourism and hospitality for a combined 30 years as well as travelled extensively experiencing backpacker style accommodation which are a source of ideas.
"We're getting back to basics...We're not professional hoteliers, we're just travellers who want to make a good deal for other traveller."
So what are they expecting as a result of being on Getaway?
"I think the most important thing for us is more for the local community just to get our faces out there," Agnus said.
Watch out for Mick and Agnus on Getaway airing on Channel 9 at 8pm Thursday night.
