Approval given for Port casino
Approval has been given for a casino to take permanent residence in Port Douglas.
The exclusive "high roller" casino will only be accessible to members who pay a $10,000 membership fee, and aims to attract wealthy overseas businessmen to the region.
The casino, to be called 'Jokers' will not contain gaming machines, with preference given to high stakes poker, black jack, snap, and two-up, a game traditionally played on ANZAC Day.
Iva Bettigen, a professional gambler from Wales and major investor in the casino said he was excited about the prospect of adding some "glitz and glamour to sleepy Port Douglas."
"From what I understand Port is known for it's relaxed atmosphere, beaches, and reef. I want Port Douglas to become a party town and I think a casino is the first step," he said.
Come back at 12pm today to find out the location of Jokers Casino.
