Girls unite for cancer research

Cancer Council Queensland is calling on all women in the area to get their girlfriends together this month and register to host a 'Girls Night In'.

Girls Night In is a national fundraising activity held by the Cancer Council each year to raise vital funds for research into women’s cancers and patient support services.

Each year in Australia more than 45,000 women are diagnosed with cancer – with more than 16,000 of these women diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer.

One in two Queensland women will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85.

Fundraising Co-ordinator at Cancer Council Queensland, Lynsie James, said hosting a Girls Night In this October is simple.

“Girls Night In is an easy way to support Cancer Council Queensland and it’s not too late to sign on,” Ms James said.

“All you need to do is invite your girlfriends over for a night in, and ask your guests to donate what they would have spent on a night out, to Cancer Council Queensland.

“A night with the girls can come in many forms, from dinner parties and chick flick nights to board games, clothes swaps or pamper nights.

“No matter what activity you choose, the main activity of the night will be fun, talking, laughter and support and above all, a Girls Night In will help in the fight against women’s cancers,” she said.

The Cancer Council Queensland hopes to raise almost $1 million from over 2450 Girls Night In events to be held across the State, and $6 million to be raised nationally.
