Since early this morning the town has been set alight by mobile phone text messages, facebook and twitter activity spreading the news that supposedly Aussie legend, John Farnham was going to perform at a charity fundraiser for little Evie Shaw to be hosted at the Glades ballroom at the Sheraton Mirage Hotel.

Unfortunately all this wild speculation is one of those situations where the story took on a of life of it's own and just grew and grew and grew.  And when you add in the speed with which modern technology can spread a rumour is has had an adverse effect on the situation.  We have just spoken to the Sheraton and Newsport can confirm that Big John Farnham  is not, we repeat is NOT performing at this fundraiser.  Apparently he was alerted about the sad news of little Evie's plight and offered any help he could since he was coincidentally having a well earned rest mid touring at the 5 star resort at Port Douglas. 

However, because of the security implications of hosting such a huge superstar at what would really be a comparatively small event,  the announcement has been made that he will NOT be attending the party.  He never was going to sing but it was nice to know that he was prepared to offer his support for such a worthy cause.

However with or without the legend the party is still very much going on.  Entry is just $10 to this special event with huge amounts of great prizes and raffles to be won, cash bar and plenty of great food that Port Douglas is renowned for.


This night will go towards turning a terrible negative situation into a positive with the great community support that the former Douglas Shire is so good at giving when someone is in need.


So what ever you are doing tonight cancel it and get to The Glade!
