Muddies prepare for new Cricket season

The 2010/11 Cricket season has already started but for the hard working Muddies ground staff the season doesn't really get going until the first home game.

Then they can tell how well they have repaired the batting wicket from the rigours of a full AFL season.  Keithy 'Golden Arm' Taylor and Daryl Mison have been working non stop on the wicket since the Crocs finished their finals series and therefore very long season at the Port Douglas Sports Ground.

Considering it's always the most run on centre field, it's almost miraculous what these two 'green thumbs' have created.  And they still have another weeks grace for final finishing touches before the first one dayer of the season for the 2nd Grade 2009/2010 Champions.

Keithy is confident that there are plenty of runs in this beautiful green track. " If the Council do as they promised and mow the outfield a little shorter this year, then there will be some centuries to be scored out there".

Daryl, whose daytime job as groundsman at the Sea Temple Golf Course has served him well in seeing off all the weeds from the wicket that had taken over during the winter months.  He agreed with Keithy, "This is the best the wicket has looked at the start of the season, for a very long time.  Let's hope the lads make plenty of use of it!"

The first home game is 2nd Grade One Day 50 overs rematch of last years Grand Final vs Cairns United.  Match starts at 10am Saturday 9th October.
