Virgin down but not out
The battle to allow Virgin Blue's to pursue its expansion plans continues with chief executive, John Borghetti, saying they were still confident regulators would have a change of heart after recently declining the proposal.
Virgin Blue is seeking approval to allow it to create an alliance with Delta Airlines and Air New Zealand, a move Qantas is asking the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to block.
Mr Borghetti was quoted as saying “I have not concluded that these (expansion plans) have been killed. This is a temporary step.
“I have no problem with legitimate complaints, and a legitimate complaint should be based on the grounds that something is anti-competitive. This is a frivolous argument.”
Mr Borghetti said that should Virgin Blue be given the green light for its plans, there would be significant benefits for travellers.
