Port Restaurants hot stuff

We've always know Port Douglas' restaurants are amongst the best going around, well now it's official with four of our favourites taken top honours in the Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence in FNQ.

Over 150 people attended the event at Shangri-La Hotel in Cairns which pitted the best of the best in our region to win awards in 22 categories.

Lure took out Best Cafe Restaurant, Zinc Best Contemporary Australian Restaurant, The Beach Shack Best Family Restaurant, and Harrison's Best New Restaurant. An honourable mention also went to Port Douglas Catering and Events.

Nominees were judged on a number of criteria including service, decor, table presentation, and of course, food.

The Beach Shack's manager, Renaul Crabb said the award highlighted the consistency of their product.

"It's the third year in a row we've won the award. It's certainly great recognition for the staff and the work they do."

Lure's Wayne Stapleton was keeping his anticipation for an award under wraps until his restaurant was announced as the Best Cafe in Far North Queensland.

"It's awesome for us and for Port Douglas," he said. "When you get recognition like this it can drive your business."

La Fontaine of Hayman has been named Far North Queensland’s top place to dine winning the Restaurant of the Year award.

Finalists will now be entered into the State awards to be presented next week.
