Best photo comp - August winner!

Over 130 votes were received for the Court House Hotel's Best Photo Competition for August, with all 11 photos receiving recognition for their brilliance from The Newsport readers.

But as usual, there can be only one winner, and that is Jascha Gusmeroli's 'Hike into the mountains behind Mossman'. Jascha's incredible photograph received around 35% of the votes and highlighted the popularity of the world's oldest rainforest.

We had more ties than Roger David for second and third places, so bottles of wine go to Wayne Bolton for his backyard butterfly and Darryl for his Green Island whale (both receiving 13.5% of the vote), and Larisa McCoubrie's Red Emperor and Ian Ralston's Brahman's in the sky (both receiving 10.8% of the vote).

But above all else, it's the diversity of the entries which demonstrate the exciting and beautiful area we choose to visit and reside in.

From the array of unique wildlife found in our rivers, oceans, and even backyards, and always photogenic sunsets, to exhilarating cliff tops and excitement to be had right in town, it's easy to see why this part of the world truly is unique.

Thanks to everyone who sent in their entries and voted for their favourite pic.

Now all eyes are on September so pack your camera and your imagination, and start snapping for your chance to win a box of Corona's and a ride in Daintree Station's new Jungle Ball!
