Art in the tropics at Esplanart 2010
Esplanart 2010 is shaping up to be a spectacular Cairns Festival exhibition of art installations along the Cairns Esplanade waterfront.
New works have been created by 10 local artists who will be installing their public art just in time for Cairns Festival’s opening on Friday 20 August.
Earlier this week, Visual Artist, Kylie Burke was putting the finishing touches on her exhibition piece entitled, Adrift. Made from recycled wood, found objects and mangrove plant, Kylie’s work can be discovered, along with nine other installations, between Muddy’s Playground and Cairns Esplanade Lagoon from Friday 20 August to Sunday 5 September 2010.
Esplanart 2010 is being co-ordinated by Cairns Regional Council and is a free event in this year’s Cairns Festival program. The project is designed to both nurture and promote the region’s wealth of creative talent while offering new opportunities for community engagement. For information, contact Esplanart project officer, Kate Hard Ph: 4055 3616.
Cairns Festival is supported and presented by Cairns Regional Council. This year's festival season will run from August 20 to September 5 at venues all over Cairns. The full program, and information about events and activities is now available throughout Cairns from Festival HQ in City Place, key venues, cafes and restaurants. Editors Comments: Art in the tropics is building momentum in all areas. Cairns has a huge impetus being generated within the Cairns Festival and already we have been advised that the Arthouse is opening their Station Studio down at the Marina to nurture and encourage Port Douglas and surrounding areas to take the artistic lead. With this much needed facility being made available and the natural encouragement from our spectacular natural environment, even I may have to get my paint brush out!
