Port Douglas Netball back after fortnight break

After a two week break, both junior and senior netball is back in full swing every Tuesday at the Port Douglas Sports Ground.

 

Junior Competition - The Under 10s competition started with the Crocs playing Mossman, at the end of the first quarter the teams were 1 goal each, by half time Savannah Scott from the Crocs got her shooting eye in and had shot 6 goals to nil.  Mossman rallied in the last quarter Zoe Cambieras was an enthusiastic defender and Sophie O'Gorman-Petrak stepped up the pressure on centre, Sophie Kirk finished well and shot 3 goals.  Lucy Webster played a great first game for the Crocs and Kalani Revel was excellent in defence.  Final score Crocs 8 def. Mossman 3. 

 

The Dolphins played Saints, the Saints team came out firing shooting 3 goals in the first quarter, Isabella Catanach put in a great game showing her athletic ability and Tiah McLean was a great defender over the 4 quarters.  Neither team shot a goal in the next 2 quarters but the Dolphins kept up the pressure with great play by Georgia Kelly and Jamie Thurtell, Mia Devine-Cameron intercepted well enabling the Dolphins to gain 4 attempts at goal in the last quarter.  Final score Saints 5 def. Dolphins nil.

 

In the Under 12s the Saints played Miallo Thunder.  By half time the Saints led 7 goals to the Thunder 5, the Thunder team with fantastic play from Madison Malone and Tilly Mellows started to gain momemtum in the 3rd quarter shooting 4 goals to 1.  Great play by the Saints girls Yasmin Stievano and Simone Pringle kept the opposition under pressure to the final siren.  Final score Thunder 12 def. Saints 8. 

 

The Crocs played the Dragons in a fast paced game, for the Crocs Lauren Radcliffe excelled all over the court and Lucy Cullen used her height well in defence.  The Dragons with standout players Tayler Durie and Liana Pellegrinet put in a strong attacking game coming away with the win.  Final score Dragons 17 def. Crocs 6. 

 

Mossman Primary played Mossman High, the Primary girls played a strong defensive game against their older opposition by half time they were 7 goals to 3,  the high school girls stepped up to score 4 goals to 2 in the last half.  Final score Mossman Primary 10 def. Mossman high 7, player's choice went to Taylor Mous.

 

The new 12s-16s competition was a great success, with 4 evenly graded teams over the 3 age groups, Team Blue played Team Green, the Blue team came out strongly in the first quarter shooting 4 goals to 2, by half time the Green team were only 1 goal down.  Angela Pringle put in a great centre game and kept the ball moving forward and Natalie Littler was ever menacing in attack, for the Green team Karla Logan as goal keeper and Brydie Short in defence stopped a last quarter barrage of goals, well done!!  Final score a draw. 

 

Team Black took on Team Red after starting 1 goal a piece in the first quarter the Red team showed great dominance, Jess Eagle-Rowe defended well and Zara Ryan took control in attack for the Black team Karlie Brady intercepted well and Brittany Bowen put in a very reliable attacking game.  Final score Team Red 8 def Team Black 2. 

 

This week the final teams will be selected in this age group to ensure they are as even as possible,  once named this will be your team for the season and you will be playing for finals netball by the end of the term, so from next Tuesday girls bring along your best game and please don't let your team down, also let your coaches know if you cannot make it, or call 0438120855. 

 

Douglas Netball will be hosting it's annual Junior Carnival on the 8th August, all coaches please ensure you have nominated your team to play, age groups are Under 10s, 12s, 14s and 16s.
