Broncos legend chills in Port
Legendary Rugby League player Tonie Carroll was spotted at the Courty last week with his family having a good feed before rounding up his crew and heading for some well deserved R 'n R.
Although he officially retired in 2008 and went off for a quieter life on the Gold Coast selling Real Estate, he made a comeback in 2009 after seeing the Broncos injuries and poor performances during the season and once again offered his invaluable help. He was something of a utility player, having played at lock, second row and also at centre and five-eighth. Carroll represented Queensland in State of Origin and played his club football for the Brisbane Broncos of the NRL, winning premierships with them in 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2006.
He also spent two seasons with the Leeds Rhinos of Super League and was named at centre in the 2001 Dream Team. He currently resides on the Gold Coast. Carroll, now 34, played 216 first grade games for the Broncos - scoring 58 tries - before retiring at the end of the 2008 season. He played 18 State of Origin matches for Queensland and seven Tests for Australia, as well as representing New Zealand in the 2000 World Cup. Whether he will extend his playing days for another season will only be discovered at the start of the forthcoming season but having seen him over the weekend, he's looking pretty fit.
Editors Comments: Whatever he decides, we can thank him for thirteen seasons with which he entertained us but, hey, just one more would be good !
