Port Douglas takes to Four Mile Beach to support Cystic Fibrosis

About 350 locals gathered at Four Mile beach to join in the 6.4kms Great strides Walkathon to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis, so it looks like Port Douglas once again beat Brisbane, 'cos the latest report from down south says that they only managed to assemble some 320 walkers.

Red is the official colour of the Charity and the walkers were a sea of red, red tee shirts, red caps, red brooches even the dogs had their own red coats.  Hooker the Bear from sponsors on the day, L.J.Hooker mingled with the crowd and encouraged the children before the walk.  Everyone was chatting and enjoying a hearty BBQ breakfast supplied by Mossman Butchering Company from Mossman and after some warming up exercises led by Teri Wilson from Fitness Paradise, the walk was started with the ceremonial cutting of the red tape.

The sun was shining down on the walkers but with a brisk wind coming in off the seas, the conditions were perfect for a stroll along Four Mile Beach and back. Every walker who started finished even if they were nestled in at the back, Editors note: with us !

The organisers were delighted to report that the total raised on the day from registrations was approx $10,000 but the overall total will get much higher as the sponsorship monies are collected through this week.
