Year six students get ready for high school

SCHOOL

Students in year six from across the region got an early taste of high school this week in preparation for making the big move next year.

Students from Alexandra Bay, Julatten, Miallo, Mossman, Mount Molloy, Port Douglas, Saint Augustine’s, and Wonga Beach schools attended the Mossman State High School Year six Transition Day.

Belinda Guthrie, the Head of Department - Junior Secondary, said students were sorted into their classes for 2021 before participating in a range of activities to get to know their new classmates and teachers better.

“Throughout the day, students were able to experience a taste of what to expect next year, and to participate in a series of ‘House’ morale team building activities, after being divided into their House groups for next year,” she said.

“We came back together at lunchtime to celebrate the day with a sausage sizzle to welcome them all to our school. During the afternoon session, students were taken through our Agriculture plot, and then put through their paces with a gym work out.

“By all accounts, it was a successful and positive day.

"The staff at Mossman High School are looking forward to working closely with our new students and their families in 2021,” Ms Guthrie said.

If you have not yet enrolled for next year, please contact Mossman State High School to collect an enrolment package.
