Victorians welcome to Queensland from next week

BORDERS

Queensland will officially open its borders to Victoria on 1 December, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has today confirmed.

On Tuesday, the Premier said if Victoria reached the criteria of 28 days of no mystery community cases then Victorians would be welcomed into the Sunshine State.

Today Victoria reached that milestone and will be allowed to cross the border next week without having to quarantine.

“It’s wonderful news and I congratulate Dan Andrews, their chief health officer and all of Victorians because this is just such fantastic news,” she told ABC News Breakfast on Wednesday morning.

"So, it means on 1 December, Victorians can also come to Queensland and, of course, Queenslanders can go to Victoria as well."

“Is my state prepared for this? We’re absolutely prepared for the influx of people for the Queensland holidays. In fact, just yesterday we saw a 250 per cent increase in some of our tourism operators across Queensland so that is absolutely wonderful news.”

The news comes after the Premier announced yesterday that residents of greater Sydney would also be allowed back into the state on 1 December after reaching the same 28-day milestone.

The premier acknowledged how hard the separation had been on families who have been separated for many months.

"We know how tough this has been on families, this is a great day, it is exciting news."

Adelaide remains a declared COVID hotspot with a decision on that likely to be made at the end of the month.
