The Port Douglas Crocs AFL team have finished the home and away season undefeated, winning the Minor Premiership title in both the Senior and Reserves team.
Both teams will now begin their finals campaigns which kick off with the Qualifying Finals on Saturday 17 October at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns.
The Senior Crocs are fighting to be the first club to win five consecutive flags in the history of AFL Cairns.
Crocs President Barry Lea said having both teams finish undefeated is a terrific reward for the hard effort of the players, coaches, and volunteers in such an interrupted COVID season.
“It is very encoring but now the hard work starts, and we are really looking forward to the busy end of the season,” he said.
“Minor Premiership doesn’t mean anything if we don’t perform during the finals.
“It just means we have the luxury of a second chance in finals.”
The last game of the season on Saturday saw the Crocs dominate the Manunda Hawks at Cazaly’s, with the Seniors keeping them goalless, finishing 141 to 1 while the Reserves finished on 136 to 6 points.
“Adam Gross and Kye Chapple did well in front of the goal while Tyson Milne was a standout on the field in the Seniors,” Mr Lea said.
“It was the first time the teams had played at Cazaly’s this season, so it was good preparation for them to play there before finals.
“We are now looking forward to matching up against two of our biggest rivals in the first week of finals.
“This is really where the season begins,” Mr Lea said.
The Reserves will take on South Cairns at 4:40pm followed by the Seniors playing Cairns Saints at 6:30pm at Cazaly’s Stadium.
