Teenager still critical after Rocky Point crash

A 16-year-old Daintree teenager remains in a critical condition in Townsville hospital following a serious head on traffic crash near Rocky Point on Saturday night.

Emergency services including Critical Care paramedics and the Rescue Helicopter were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on the Mossman Daintree Road just after 8:00pm.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said both drivers were trapped in their vehicles when emergency services arrived.

“The teenager was freed from his Camry sedan before being airlifted to Townsville,” the spokesperson said.

“A 44-year-old Miallo woman was in the second car, a white Toyota Hilux, she was conveyed to Mossman hospital for treatment of chest, neck, arm and leg injuries.”

The woman is currently in a stable condition in Cairns Hospital.

“The cause of the crash is under investigation which has initially revealed the Camry sedan crossed to the wrong side of the road, colliding with the Hilux,” said police.
