Realtors respond to Council’s new online property report software

PLANNING SCHEME

Realtors will need to digest a new online property reporting facility now installed on Douglas Shire Council’s website which will save people time and promote a much better understanding of the shire’s planning scheme.

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said customers accessing the service will be able to search for a property using either a street address, lot number or a parcel number.

LJ Hooker’s Steve Doble said he was aware of the facility but needed time to learn more about it.

“I am in the throes of digesting it, but potentially it can be beneficial in the long term.

“We have a sales meeting on Monday where we will discuss it,” he said.

And Ray White’s Mark Flinn wholly endorsed the initiative and although he needs to spend more time to get a thorough understanding, he views this as a proactive step.

“It would be silly not to endorse it. It allows for open communication and shows we are moving with the times.

“It is an advantageous move and I have no hesitation in endorsing it,” said Flinn.

Mayor Kerr said this will generate a report which maps the property showing the relevant planning scheme zones and any overlays affecting the land.

“Instead of having to request this information from Council and perhaps waiting several days for a response, reports will be available instantly for either viewing on line, or download.

“It provides immediate, accurate information to the public around the clock,” he said.

The Mayor explained the reports will also include a link to the relevant Table of Assessment.

“This feature will assist those preparing development applications to understand what level of assessment will apply to their proposed land use.

“We expect it will be particularly useful for those working in the property development and real estate industry,” the Mayor said.

The delivery of the online mapping tool is part of Council’s 2020-2021 Operational Plan outcomes.

The service is free and may be found on Council’s website under Planning Services.
