2020 Crocodile Trophy mountain bike race postponed

MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE

Yet another event has fallen victim to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, with the Crocodile Trophy mountain bike race, officially postponed.

The 2020 event was scheduled for October, with the final leg of the 780 km staged bike race through Tropical North Queensland, set to finish on Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas.

In a statement, founder and CEO Gerhard Schönbacher said the 26th edition of the Crocodile Trophy would not go ahead this year.

“Regarding the worldwide development and the strict entry regulations in Australia, we unfortunately saw no alternative but to postpone the event to 2021,” he said.

Organisers said all registered riders have been contacted directly and further details will be made available in the coming weeks.

The new dates for the nine-day race will see the riders start in Cairns on 15 October 2021 and travel up through the Atherton Tablelands, before finishing in Port Douglas on 23 October 2021.

The race usually attracts over 100 riders from all over the world and due to increased demand, event organisers have announced that they will be increasing next year’s maximum capacity to 200 riders.

Registrations for the 2021 race will open on 16 October 2020.
