The community will have the chance to find out more about the Wangetti Trail Project when key stakeholders hold an information session in Port Douglas on Tuesday.

The Douglas Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Douglas Shire Council, is holding a morning tea presentation session at the Tin Shed, giving locals the opportunity to get first-hand information on the progress of the project.

The Douglas Chamber of Commerce hopes the session will give the community a better idea of how an array of local businesses and the community will benefit from the trail.

David Edwards, Projects Chief Executive Officer for the Department of Innovation and Tourism Industry Development, and Kerry Nisbet, who provides project management services for the Global Tourism Hubs, will be speaking during the presentation.

Chamber President, Liz Ross, said the Wangetti Trail will be extremely beneficial to the Far North Queensland economy.

“It will provide the opportunity for a whole different type of traveller,” she said.

“It adds a different dimension to the experience people can get from this area.”

She added that local trade businesses will also have the chance to learn more about the design and construction of the project during the meeting.

“Recently the State Government put the call out for new tenders for stage two of the trail,” she said.

“So, there is currently an opportunity for local businesses to submit tenders and get involved.”

The proposed trail will be Queensland’s first dual-use, multi-day trail showcasing our unique natural assets and rich Indigenous culture and will be one of Australia’s leading adventure-based ecotourism experiences, attracting visitors on an international scale.
