Vehicle in ditch south of Mossman

VEHICLE ROLLOVER

Two people were taken to Mossman Hospital yesterday following a single-vehicle rollover on the Captain Cook Highway south of Mossman.

The vehicle has landed in a ditch south of Bonnie Doon road at around 3:45pm yesterday afternoon.

Paramedics attended the scene, transporting the pair to Mossman Hospital in a stable condition with suspected spinal injuries.

They have both since been released home.

Meanwhile, Police are urging motorists to exercise caution on the roads with a mid-year report released by Queensland Police revealing an eight per cent increase in the number of fatal traffic crashes across the state.

A total of 91 lives have been lost on Queensland roads in the first five months of 2020, up from 84 at the same time last year despite COVID restrictions resulting in less traffic on the roads over recent months.

Port Douglas Station Officer-in-Charge, Sergeant Damian Meadows, said as traffic begins to return to the roads, everyone needs to be more aware of their surroundings.

“The state has been opened up for more travel as restrictions ease so it’s important for motorists to remember that with more vehicles on the road it may take longer to get from A to B, so drive to the conditions,” he said.
