Two teens killed in head on crash south of Cairns

BREAKING:

Two teenagers have died following a serious traffic crash in Babinda last night.

The pair, believed to be in a relationship, collided head-on with another vehicle along the Bruce Highway, approximately two kilometres north of Babinda at 7.30pm. 

A 16-year-old girl from Bellenden Ker and a 19-year-old man from Wongaling Beach were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

Other media outlets have identified the pair as Lauren Quabba and her partner Evan Fielder.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 17-year-old boy from Gulliver was airlifted to Cairns Base Hospital in a serious condition but is now stable. 

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.

Police are appealing to any member of the community who may have witnessed the crash to contact police.
