Port Douglas woman arrested for assault, thefts, and more

A 24-year-old Port Douglas woman has been arrested along with a 22-year-old man from Edmonton following an extensive police investigation.

The pair were arrested on Saturday on a number of outstanding offences relating to a several crimes committed earlier this month.

Police will allege the pair were involved in the serious assault of 53-year-old male at a Spence Street unit complex in Cairns at around 4.40pm on 1 August.

The victim allegedly confronted the man after he was seen cutting a piece of hose located in a communal car wash bay area. 

The man allegedly pulled a knife from his bag and threatened the victim before the woman allegedly became involved in the altercation and scratched the victim on his right cheek.

Police will further allege the pair were in the company of another male who attempted to punch the victim.

The trio fled in a vehicle after stealing fuel from a jerry can using the damaged piece of hose.

The pair were further charged due to their involvement in the alleged burglary and theft of a vehicle from a Kennedy Highway farm on 6 August.

The Port Douglas woman was further charged with the willful damage of CCTV cameras at Exploration Way Edmonton on 8 August, the alleged theft of clothes from McLeod Street businesses on 7 and 8 August, and the theft of a station wagon from a Pease Street unit on also on 7 August.

She was also charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, wilful damage, and two counts each of stealing, trespassing and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The 22-year-old Cairns man was charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, common assault and possession of a knife in a public place.

Both offenders are scheduled to appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
