DAB to spread artistic knowledge to the region's children
COMMUNITY ART
As part of DAB’s on-going commitment to learning and education, they will be running DAB’s Kidz Art classes in September and October.
The classes will focus on younger people and to encourage them to experience different forms of art; and how to get involved in areas such as Ceramics, Flow Art and Mosaics.
DAB caters to everyone with a major objective of showcasing the various art forms and tapping into unfound talents.
Wendy Wajer, a multidisciplinary artist, who has expressed herself creatively from childhood until present in one form or another, will conduct the classes.
The first class is an Introduction to Ceramics on 25 September; followed by an Introduction to Flow Painting on 1 October and an Introduction to Mosaics on 3 October. All the classes will be held at DAB’s art studio on 11 Mill Street, Mossman.
Entering the South Australian College of the Arts and Education straight from high school, Wendy spent four years full time obtaining a Bachelor of Design, majoring in ceramics and graduating with distinctions, culminating in a final year exhibition at the Jam Factory.
After graduation Wendy continued her art practice in a rented studio in the Adelaide hills, developing bodies of work for exhibition. She secured a position in the commercial pottery ‘Barossa Valley Pottery” as a thrower, and honed her skills in all aspects of ceramic production.
Wendy was successfully awarded a New Incentive Scheme grant to start her own ‘Red Creek Pottery’. This opportunity to build a business producing domestic stoneware grew her knowledge of sustainable practices in ceramics.
Attracted by the climate, Wendy moved to Queensland and after five years ofroaming, she found a property in Julatten where she has grounded her practice in her love of nature.
Kids classes scheduled for October:
Wednesday 25th Sept
Introduction to Ceramics
Introduce basic techniques in clay construction.
• Pinching, slabs, coiling
• Joining techniques
• Project suggestions using learnt techniques
• Students complete their chosen project
Tuesday 1st Oct
Introduction to Flow painting
• Brief introduction to the what flow painting is
• Step by step process of mixing the paints
• Demonstration of 2 techniques
• Participants complete 2 canvases
Thursday 3rd Oct
Introduction to mosaics
• Brief introduction to tools, techniques and safety
• Students are guided through the process of designing for mosaics
• Demonstrate the indirect method onto a 20x25 board
• Participants complete a small project
