Mossman and Port Douglas to promote Daffodil Day
CANCER COUNCIL
Daffodil Day Appeal volunteers are getting ready to turn the streets of Mossman and Port Douglas yellow to raise funds for vital cancer research.
The Daffodil Day Appeal will take place throughout August, culminating in Daffodil Day on Friday, August 23.
On August 23, Cancer Council’s Mossman Port Douglas Volunteer Branch will be selling fresh daffodils outside Woolworths in Mossman and undertaking their annual wheelbarrow walk down the main street of both towns.
Among the branch members who will be volunteering their time is Mossman local Raelene McDonald, who joined the branch nearly 10 years ago after losing her sister to cancer.
“I think being involved in Daffodil Day means not only remembering those we have lost, but also fighting for those who are currently going through cancer treatment,” she said.
“For the last five years we have taken our modified wheelbarrow, aka the ‘DaffBarrow’ around Mossman in the morning and then over to Port Douglas in the afternoon.”
Ms McDonald encouraged locals to get involved and support this year's Daffodil Day Appeal.
“It is rewarding to see the Mossman and Port Douglas community embrace our efforts and help make a difference,” she said.
Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillian thanked Ms McDonald and the Mossman branch for their ongoing support.
“We are grateful to Raelene and all of our dedicated Mossman Port Douglas Volunteer Branch members for raising important awareness and encouraging locals to get on board with our Daffodil Day Appeal,” Ms McMillian said.
“The daffodil is the international symbol of hope for everyone affected by cancer.
“Money raised this year?through the Daffodil Day Appeal?will provide more than hope to people affected by cancer, it will?go towards?vital?cancer research, with the potential to find the next breakthrough in cancer treatment or detection.”
