Douglas Netball round nine results and player awards

Douglas netball round nine saw the unbeaten Young Guns’ winning streak comes to an end as they tied with rivals Cougars.


Cougars had an impressive first term before the Guns fought back winning the second and third quarters. The final term was an all-out battle with scores level at the final whistle, 37 points each.

Best and fairest was awarded to Jay Heidke while players’ choices’ were Nikkaya Williams and Georgia McCarthy.

The Jets 1 versus Crocs 1 match saw a strong first quarter from the Jets giving them an early lead they were able to hold on to until the end to win 44 – 32.

Jasmine Kirk had a notable game receiving both best and fairest and players’ choice, along with Kyah Francis.

In division two, the Drifters took on the Crocs 2 in a closely contested match.

Crocs had more stamina in the end, able to hold out to take the win 27 – 22.

Best and fairest went to Bonnie Rylands while players’ choices’ went to Renae Shapter and Jessie Goetze.

The Jets 2 and Young Diamonds game was another very close match with both sides fighting for the lead the entire match.

In the end, the Jets came home strong to finish up by two points, final score 25 – 23.

Best and fairest was awarded to Kacy Baxter who also received players’ choice along with Brigitte Mynott.

In the junior competition, the Panthers went up against Dynamite in a fast-paced match.

Dynamite had an extremely strong first quarter before the Panthers clawed their way back for the rest of the game falling just short by two points, Dynamite winning 19 – 17.

Best and fairest went to Alannah McNally who also received players’ choices along with Bayahn Aston-Dilan.

In the Young Sapphires and Strikers match, the Sapphires came out firing too strong for the Strikers this week, claiming the game 34 – 6.

Impressive shooting was displayed by Saskia Booth who racked up 22 goals for the Sapphires.

Best and fairest went to Jasmine Davidson who was also awarded players’ choices along with Hazel Kitto.
Lastly, the Miallo Allstars and Port match saw both young teams put in a great effort however, Miallo defeated Port 17 – 9.

Best and fairest went to Mahana Davis while players’ choices were Sophie Ziesler and Freya Adams.
