Douglas Netball round eight results and player awards

Tuesday night netball at the Douglas courts saw an action-packed round eight.

In the junior competition, the Lightning Strikers battled it out with the Miallo Allstars in what was a close match.

The high winds made for difficult shooting conditions but Miallo were able to push on to take the win, 14 – 10.

Best and fairest was awarded to Violet Kitto while players choices’ were Isabella Macfarlane and Freya Adams.

In the Dynamite and Strikers match both teams came out strong however, the Dynamite took off with the lead thanks in part to great defence from Jorja Slaughter. 

Final score 15 – 12, to the Dynamite.

For her efforts, Jorja was awarded players choice along with Imogen Lyne while best and fairest went to Bayahn Aston Dilan.

The Panthers and Young Sapphires’ match was another very close game with the Sapphires taking an early lead before the Panthers fought back to in the second to sit right on the Sapphire toes until the end.

A nail biter final quarter saw the Sapphires just sneak home by one point, winning 20 -19.

Best and fairest went to Alexis Rich while players choices’ were Alannah McNally and Eliza Kwik.

In the senior’s division two competition, the Jets 2 took on the Drifters.

The Jets came out firing and despite the best efforts of the Drifters it wasn’t enough to catch them, final score 41 – 25.

Best and fairest went to Mercedes Ramsey and players choices’ were Brooklyn Hunt and Poppy Lawrence.

The Young Diamonds and Crocs 2 game was another nail biter that saw the lead continually changing sides however, a strong final quarter from the Diamonds saw them just get home ahead of the Crocs to win 38 – 34.

Best and fairest was awarded to Mia Madwick while players choices’ went to Kacy Baxter and Jessie Goetze.

Lastly, in senior’s division one game the Cougars took on the Jets 1 in a hard-fought match that saw the Cougars come out on top 47 – 36.

Players choice was Kristen Ramsey.
