Crocs dunk community leaders in ice bath for good cause
SPORT
For the first time ever, the Port Douglas Crocs AFL Club will host a “Big Freeze to Fight MND” round tomorrow when they take on the Bulldogs at the Croc Pit.
The main attraction of the Big Freeze will see high-profile people from the local community be dunked in an ice-filled tank to raise funds for research into motor-neuron disease (MND).
The “Big Freeze at the G” has been a staple of AFL in Victoria since 2014 and this is the first year the event will be held this far north.
Names set to take an icy dip include Brad Cooper - Coach at Port Douglas, Gary Young - President of AFL Cairns, Leon Baker - former Essendon Premiership Player, Councillors Roy Zammataro and Michael Kerr, Barry Lea - Port Douglas Crocs President and more.
The Big Freeze will take place at 1.30pm before the Senior match at 2.00pm, which also coincides with the Port Douglas 30 Year anniversary.
The Crocs have a number of other activities planned to celebrate the club’s 30th birthday including a charity golf day and ball. Check out their Facebook page for more information.
Port Douglas Football Club Vice President Dave Evans said the club is thrilled to be involved helping raise money for the fight against MND.
“Port Douglas is proud to raise the awareness and be associated in the fight against motor-neuron disease,” he said,
“The players will wear MND socks, sell MND Visors and Leon Baker is even wearing his lace-up Essendon guernsey worn in the 1985 Premiership match when he does the Big Freeze”.
Get down to the Port Douglas Sporting Complex on Saturday to join in the fun and support a great cause.
