Mayor to join national climate summit

DOUGLAS Shire Mayor Julia Leu will be joining mayors of cities and towns across Australia who will be calling for strong, unified action on climate change from all levels of government at a national climate summit taking place in Kiama, New South Wales, tomorrow.

The Mayors will join forces at the inaugural Cities Power Partnership Summit, run by the Climate Council.

They will be joined by controversial US Republican city leader and climate visionary Mayor R. Rex Parris of Lancaster, who will call for conservative leaders to commit to tackling climate change.

The mayors taking part are: Mayor R. Rex Parris, Lancaster, California; Mayor Mark Honey, Kiama, NSW; Mayor Kim le Cerf, Darebin, VIC; Mayor Damien Ryan, Alice Springs, NT; Mayor Julia Leu, Douglas Shire, QLD; Mayor Ken Keith OAM, Parkes, NSW; Mayor Gregory Conkey OAM, Wagga Wagga, NSW; Deputy Mayor Elly Bird, Lismore, NSW; and Cr Matthew Kirwan, Greater Dandenong, VIC.
