Police seek public assistance over missing Port Douglas man

UPDATE 5.30am: POLICE have located an elderly man who went missing from the Ozcare aged care facility in Port Douglas yesterday afternoon.

Police and emergency services launched a large scale search for Norman Baldock last night involving a helicopter and dog units.

The dementia sufferer was eventually found uninjured inside the facility on Mitre Street.

EARLIER: Police are seeking public assistance into the whereabouts of missing Port Douglas man Norman James Baldock.

Mr Baldock, 79, is a resident of the Ozcare aged care facility in Port Douglas. He is in the later stages of dementia and there are serious concerns for his wellbeing.

He was last seen in his room within the secure unit of the facility at about 3pm today (Friday 5 October).

It's believed staff became aware of his disappearance at 4:15pm, at which time they commenced a search of the residential facility without success.

Police were subsequently notified and a coordinated search has been ongoing since at 5:30pm in the south Four Mile area of Port Douglas.

Residents are asked to check there private properties and immediate area in an attempt to locate the missing person. 

Mr Baldock is described as 173cm, slightly overweight, fair complexion, grey hair and green eyes.

He was last seen wearing dark shorts and a white top. His mobility is significantly inhibited as a result of medical conditions and therefore it is believed that he will not have the capacity to walk any considerable distance.
