THE Salsa Sorensen Association is celebrating its most successful fundraising effort since its creation in 2008.
Originally founded in memory of the late Brian Sorensen as a way to give back to Douglas Shire sporting clubs, charities and groups, the local foundation has raised $20, 835 for the local community, due largely to the recent charity golf day.
Association principal Jenny Sorensen said she was overwhelmed by the support.
“It gives you the greatest feeling to be able to give so much money back to the community,” she said.
“We were aiming to give away over $20,000, but to be able to achieve that in our 10th year is incredible.
“This is the most money we’ve been able to give away.”
Jenny paid tribute to her association’s partnership with Salsa Bar and Grill.
“They’re one of the most recognizable brands in the Douglas Shire, so to have their continued support is just fantastic,” Jenny said.
“We plan on growing the event even further next year. We’ve got some big things planned.”
