“They convinced our mothers that if a food item came in a bottle -- or a can or a box or a cellophane bag -- then it was somehow better for you than when it came to you free of charge via Mother Nature.” – Michael Moore, American documentary filmmaker, liberal activist, and author."

MICHAEL Moore’s abbreviated take on fast food is as prophetic as his many predictions and controversial viewpoints that seem to unnerve the cognoscenti.

And here in small town Craiglie, the now two-week old BP service station’s fast food outlet has been an immediate success.

According to Steve Cooke, Operations Manager of Rampage Group, who manages the BP servo, there is an obvious need for petrol, but the availability of quality food and coffee has given us a slight edge.

“We are at an advantage where the majority of our food is made on site: sandwiches, burgers, for example. This means they are always fresh and this is important to the consumer,” he said.

Cooke said there are two staff in the kitchen and in a short time they have made an immediate impression.

The BP servo is providing quality coffee and also sells the renowned Mocca’s pies.

Open 24/7, Cooke is not concerned about Shell’s presence across the road. “There is a place for two players in the market but we have to ensure we offer the best service possible.

“We have the advantage of being on the left hand side of the road and when people leave the shire there is every chance they’ll stop knowing Clifton Beach is their next closest stop to fill up,” said Cooke.

He said he was excited with the start from both sides of the business and was looking ahead to a bright future.
