- Douglas region gets set to celebrate NAIDOC Week
THE region's NAIDOC Week festivities kicked off on Monday and continue today at the Mossman Gorge.
A rainforest market and entertainment will greet visitors today from 10am and run through until 4pm at the tourist hotspot.
The specially themed 'Because of her, we can' NAIDOC Week began with a moving flag raising ceremony at the Douglas Shire Council on Monday.
The week-long celebration of Indigenous culture will also include a BBQ lunch tomorrow before finishing with the annual street parade and indoor gathering on Friday July 20.
This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is in recognition of the “invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made – and continue to make – to our communities, our families, our rich history and our nation.”
