UPDATE: Police have thanked the Far North Queensland community for helping to locate a family of campers in Cape York yesterday.

A family emergency prompted a search for the family, who were on a four-wheel drive trip in the Cape York Peninsula.

“The family were located by a Park Ranger at a Cape York camp ground yesterday afternoon, and a message was passed on,” a police spokesperson said.

“They have now made contact with family members in the south-east corner of the state.”

EARLIER: Police are pleading for assistance from the local four-wheel drive and camping community to locate a family believed travelling in the Cape York area.

Deception Bay couple Paul and Dana Nelson are believed to be in a silver 2005 model Nissan Patrol station wagon bearing Queensland registration 318-SRK.

They are travelling with other family members who may be driving a white 2013 model Toyota FJ Cruiser with Queensland registration 553-TIR.

Police are urging anyone who has seen or knows Paul Nelson to make contact with his sister Barbara in relation to a family emergency.
