On the eve of one of Port Douglas’ favourite days Gus “The Gusman” Gardner arrives at the annual ANZAC Texas Hold’em Tournament in Port Douglas.
Hold'em a game he is no stranger to, helping build its following in region bringing the first ever major tournament to Port Douglas over 10 years ago.
After a few quiet vodkas Gus excuses himself to prepare for what many look forward to all year when locals and visitors go shoulder to shoulders to gain exclusive access to a piece of the action at the Central Hotel's now famous ANZAC Two Up pit.
Originally held at its sister pub ‘the Courty’ on the corner, ANZAC Two Up moved up street to the Central Hotel several years ago.
‘The Gusman’ was returned by demand this year as Master of Ceremonies for the tumultuous occasion and master he is as the day attracts hundreds of super thirsty spinners, ready to win big.
