Douglas Shire Council sought an information request from Crystalbrook earlier this year seeking clarification on a number of aspects, including the design’s visual suitability for the tropical village.

Despite this, a spokesperson from the developer said the project would go ahead after a rethink of the masterplan.

“Crystalbrook Collection remains fully committed to the revitalisation and will work with key partners over the coming months to revisit the enhanced marina experience,” the spokesperson said.

“We anticipate it will be business as usual for the next 18 months at the marina as feasibility studies are undertaken.”

The original design of Syrian billionaire Ghassan Aboud’s company included a number of waterfront dining and retail precinct, a 130-room luxury hotel, 45 villas and nine apartments.

A number of marina tenants, including the popular Hemingway's Brewery and Barbados, have faced uncertain futures since Crystalbrook announced their plans for the marina after acquiring it from The Reef Marina last year.

It's believed Council sought clarity on how these businesses would continue to function once construction begun.
