CAPE York Police charged a 50-year-old Aurukun woman on Wednesday afternoon following an inbound drug detection at the community’s airport.

It will be alleged 10 packages of cannabis were located within a box of chocolates and four packets of flour being carried within the woman’s luggage.

She was arrested and transported to the Aurukun Police station where a search was conducted of two large stuffed toys being carried by the woman. The toys were allegedly found to contain a further three packages of cannabis.

Police were acting on a tip off and attended the airport to greet an incoming Cairns flight at around 5pm.  Officers then spoke with the suspected female when the search of her luggage began.

The woman was charged with possession of a dangerous drug in a quantity exceeding schedule 3 of the Drugs Misuse Act.

She is scheduled to appear in the Aurukun Magistrates Court on April 19.
