Touch of Italy to live on at foodies favourite 'Osteria Padella'

MUCH LOVED

FOR Astrid Cancrini and the team at Osteria Padella it has always been about authenticity.

The popular Italian restaurant will be closing at the end of October, but not before giving customers a couple more months of that real Italian tradition.

“All the products are imported straight from Italy,” Astrid said.

“All of the wine list is Italian, even the Moretti beer.

“This is what we eat and drink back home so we think it’s important to bring pieces of home to Port Douglas.”

Osteria Padella first opened its doors in 2014 and quickly become a favourite amongst the busy Wharf Street dining strip. It’s the type of restaurant foodies from the southern states return to religiously, and local diners share a genuine affection for.

Astrid admits to feeling ‘a little sad’ to be winding it down.

“It’s very heartwarming kind of food,” she explained.

“It’s really informal, and that is refreshing for people in Port Douglas.

“We’ve had people coming back to us for years and a lot of our customers are saying ‘no you can’t be closing’, but unfortunately we are.

“It has been a really good business, very enjoyable and we’ll miss it.”

Astrid said it was the customers and her wonderful staff that had made the journey such a rewarding experience.

She will now focus on other projects including possibly moving Osteria Padella to Melbourne. But the amazing Italian cuisine won’t be lost to the region forever with catering options set to remain available.

A farewell party is expected be held in late October.

NOTE: Osteria Padella is open for dinner from 5.30pm Monday to Saturday.
