WATCH: Port Douglas walkers set for million dollar views

WALKING TRAIL

THE Flagstaff Hill Walking Trail is beginning to take shape as construction now turns to stage two of the project.

Once completed, the trail will give walkers vantage points to Low Isles, Snapper Island, Double Island, the Daintree Rainforest and Four Mile Beach.

A smoking ceremony at Little Cove was held yesterday to signal the start of the next phase of the project, with the 1.5km trail expected to be finished in November.

It will link Four Mile Beach with the waterfront and marina using both sealed and unsealed walking tracks.

“It’s a spectacular trail that will be enjoyed by both residents and visitors alike and is destined to become one of the region’s key attractions,” Douglas Shire Mayor Leu said.

The trail is being constructed by Cairns-based Eco Civil Solution and local Indigenous company Bulban Enterprises after the two companies partnered to win the contract under an open tender.

“Council is delighted to be able to support Yalanji business development initiatives in the Shire,” Leu said.

“Training will be provided for 15 staff, ensuring they have stronger skills for future work opportunities.

The State Government has contributed $550,000 to the project under a special funding program.
