THE Port Douglas Yacht Club (PDYC) is once again looking forward to competitive racing when it hosts the 2017 Quicksilver Port Douglas Race week from Tuesday May 16 to Saturday May 20 when the famous Clipper Cup will be up for grabs.

This is the 17th year the PDYC has staged the event which includes racing around the stunning Low Isle and Snapper Islands, as well as some technical racing off the famous Four Mile Beach.

Event manager Richard Stapleton said today there is a strong contingent from Townsville, along with local entries. To date 28 boats have entered.

“I can confirm that Greg Sinclair will again be the race director and we are delighted he has decided to return to the event,” said Stapleton.

The race has seen many changes since the inaugural Mirage Resorts Clipper Cup in 1995 and those who participate marvel at one of the best playgrounds for the sport. 

The inaugural regatta attracted 44 entries from as far afield as PNG, New Zealand, Victoria and New South Wales.  The seven race series commenced with the first three races staged by Cairns Yacht Club with the fourth being a 40km passage from Cairns to Port Douglas followed by three further races staged by Port Douglas Yacht Club.

Racing starts at 10am each day.
