Port Douglas humiliate toothless Tigers

AFL CAIRNS

PORT Douglas humiliated a limp North Cairns on Saturday by a massive 224 points.

The Crocs were back to their devastating best, registering a staggering 60 scoring shots to just six in the 36.24 (240) to 2.4 (6) whitewash.

It was the reigning premier’s fourth straight victory as they enter a two-week bye four points clear on top of the AFL Cairns table.

Despite their perfect start to the season, it was the first time the Crocs had put a solid four-quarter performance together.

The writing was on the wall from the outset when Jesse Mawson kicked the opening goal inside the first minute. They’d kicked another four for the term, with captain Kye Chapple adding two on his way to a nine-goal haul for the afternoon.

A 32-point quarter time margin was quickly extended to a match-winning lead midway through the second term with newcomer Matt Medcraft (three goals), Kurt Bradshaw (five goals) and Adam Gross (four goals) contininuing their impressive form. Ethan McCullough and Dylan Wearmouth were also instrumental in setting up a 68-point half-time advantage.

It was all downhill after the main change with a hapless North Cairns held to just one behind for the rest of the match. Five of Chapple’s goals came in the second half, while Bradshaw booted four of his bag as the Crocs slammed on 21 second half goals to obliterate the Tigers.

Port Douglas will now enjoy a break before hosting Cairns City Lions on April 29.
