YOU know it has been raining when people are kayaking down the street.
Port Douglas has been lashed with more than 150mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours causing problems on roads and across town, and there’s still more to come.
Yet the deluge didn’t spoil the fun of a handful of residents who took the opportunity to explore the backstreets of Brolga and Ulysses Avenue by boat.

“Only in Port Douglas!” said Gabriella Ferro, referring to a video she posted to social media of the happy paddlers in the flood water.
“Kayaking in the street monsoon fun...as long as the crocs don't start swimming down the street too.”

It comes as Four Mile Beach was closed to swimmers this morning due to rough conditions, while a fallen power line caused some power outages on Warner Street. The Sunday Markets in Port Douglas has also been affected.
Motorists are being asked to show caution across flooded roads throughout the Shire, with the Foxton Bridge currently closed and the Mossman-Mt Molloy Road partially flooded.
Caution should also be shown on the Captain Cook Highway between Cairns and Port Douglas.
Douglas Shire Council’s Disaster Dashboard is back up online after experiencing some technical difficulties, while the Bureau of Meteorology is still trying to fix a blip in its Cairns weather radar.
