MEDIA AWARDS: PORT DOUGLAS Magazine and Newsport journalist nominated for top gongs

QUEENSLAND AWARDS

PORT Douglas’ two major news mediums – PORT DOUGLAS Magazine and Newsport – are in unique company after being nominated as finalists for this year’s Queensland Multi Media Awards.

Newsport journalist Mark Murray has been nominated in the Best General News Story: Journalism category for his feature piece ‘Mate’s final sacrifice saved Danny’s life’.

This was a heart-wrenching interview with popular Port Douglas businessman Danny Gray, who was the sole survivor of a helicopter crash in Cape Tribulation earlier this year. Gray swam for his life in shark, jellyfish and croc infested waters after his mate had downed his chopper in the sea on the way home from a fishing trip. Waking up on the ocean floor still strapped to his seat, the story that unfolded made national headlines. Murray is up against media professionals from News Corporation and Southern Cross Austereo.
