Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival road closure information

ROAD CLOSURES




THE Tropical Journey’s Great Barrier Reef Festival is just days away with the event all set for this Sunday 6 November.

There will be a number of road closures and important traffic conditions for locals and visitors to be aware of - starting from this Saturday afternoon - which have been outlined below.

Local residents are encouraged to take extra care when travelling along certain sections in and around Port Douglas, especially while the event is in progress between 7.30am - 10am.

Port Douglas Road, Davidson Street and the Captain Cook Highway will NOT be closed.


TOTAL ROAD CLOSURES:

- THE ESPLANADE: 9am Friday 4th November - 5pm Sunday 6th November
- Mowbray St between the Esplanade & Garrick Street: 4am - 1pm Sunday 6th November
- Garrick St between Mowbray & Beryl St: 4am - 1pm Sunday 6th November
- Mowbray River Rd from Glengary Big 4 to The Bump Track 4am - 10am Sunday November 6th

* NOTE: The Corner of Mowbray River Rd/Connolly Road to Spring Creek & Tresize Rd is NOT AFFECTED by this event.


* LOCAL RESIDENTS ONLY: 4am - 1pm Sunday November 6th (Race Day)
- Beryl St between Garrick & Sand Sts
- Sand St between Beryl & Tide St
- Tide St
- Garrick Street between Tide St & Beachfront Mirage Estate

* NOTE: if you can avoid travel between peak period of 7:30 - 10am would be appreciated 

CAUTION RUNNERS:
* Residents please take care when travelling in the following areas between 7:30am - 12:30pm due to Event in Progress.

- Solander Boulevard - Little Reef Street
- Mitre Street
- Bougainvillia Way - The Sunbird Centre - Port Douglas Road
- Nautilus Street - Palmer Sea Reef - Old Port Road
- Beor St (Port Pacific Estate)
- Sheraton Mirage Resort
- Captain Cook Highway (Craiglie) 

* NOTE: Port Douglas Road, Davidson Street and the Captain Cook Highway ARE NOT CLOSED.

ACCOMMODATION TRANSFER INFORMATION:
- Access to Beaches & Mowbray by the Sea will need to be via Garrick Street.
- Residents on Garrick Street will have access in and out of their streets.
- Residents on Sands Street will need to speak with Traffic Marshall for access - although it is preferred not to occur between 7:30am - 10:30am as that is the height of runners in the area.

PARKING: Will be available in Reynolds Park from the corner of Davidson St & Blake St - alternatively at the Community Centre on Mowbray St.

FREE EVENT:
For the Kids in the Star FM 2.3km Junior Challenge from 9am. Registrations taken for all distances on the day.
